Continuous and comprehensive Evaluation is known as CCE and it is a newly added education system, which is introduced by the CBSE board. This system is quite worthwhile for students and teachers, as well. Through this system the board can determine students’ learning difficulties and based on that it prescribes suitable remedial steps that enable students to perform well in exams. The word ‘continuous’ is referred as the evaluation of skills and knowledge of students on a continuous basis. This process is designed to make education as a habit not as a onetime event. On the other hand, the word ‘Comprehensive’ means, a useful system, which is designed to enhance students’ aptitude level and attitude with the help of scholastic and co-scholastic activities.
This is a continuous process, which assesses student’s skills and abilities from the starting of their academic year. This unique process is being conducted throughout the year and it is done formally or in an informal way. This useful process is implemented with the help of different techniques of evaluation that measure students’ overall performance in the right way. Through this process a child’s or a student’s performance is not only measured in terms of his/her knowledge, but also his/her participation in different activities including health and physical activities. In a broader way, this process assesses a child’s growth on the basis of scholastic and co-scholastic areas. Different criteria are included in these two areas.
This new scheme of evaluation measures students’ performance from classes 1 to 10. Separate schemes of evaluations are implemented to students class-wise. Students from classes 1 to 5 are assessed in a particular way whereas students’ performances from classes 6-10 are measured using a different process. The common parameters for both cases are some scholastic and co-scholastic areas. The Scholastic areas are related to brain. In this stage, learners’ ability is assessed on the basis of curricular subjects like Math and English. The co-scholastic areas are concerned with that field which is related to the hand and heart. In this stage, students’ life skills, co-curricular activities, attitudes, values and interests are judged thoroughly. Moreover, students need to go through this process throughout the academic year and finally, they achieve deserving grades.
CCE stands for continuous and comprehensive evaluation. It measures students’ performance by using different techniques. The entire evaluation process is done on the basis of scholastic areas and co-scholastic areas. Scholastic areas are generally related to subject aspects and co-scholastic areas are concerned with students’ life skills, attitudes and co-curricular activities. The scholastic evaluation is incorporated with formative assessment (FA) and summative assessment (SA).
Formative assessment is a process of assessment, which can be conducted formally and informally. This type of assessment can be conducted during the teaching period or after completion of a unit. The class teacher or the subject teacher maintains the entire process. This assessment includes:

- Home Work
- Oral test
- Group Activity
- Group discussion
- Conversation / Interview
Summative test is a testing system, which is conducted in a traditional way. This test happens on paper based on the curriculum taught before the exam in a specified class. Moreover, the question paper of the exam is prepared by the CBSE board. Students can take this exam at their school campus and the entire process is managed by the school teachers.
Each school session is divided into two terms like first term and second term. First term is the time period from April to September and the second term is specified from October to March. According to the CCE structure, each term has two formative assessments (FA) and one summative assessment (SA). The entire syllabus is divided into two terms so that students cover specified chapters in the first term and the other parts in the second terms. Moreover, a separate scheme of evaluation is prepared for classes 1 to 5 and a different process is applied for classes 6 to 10.
CBSE board has adopted CCE means continuous and comprehensive evaluation system, which is a school- based evaluation system that measures students’ performance in all respects. This evaluation process is designed to assess students’ learning ability and behavioral outcomes. The entire CCE system is structured by giving importance to scholastic and co-scholastic systems. *For classes 6 to 8 the assessment based on co-scholastic activities occurs throughout the academic year and it is reported once. For classes 9 to 10 the same assessment is done once a term means 2 times in a year.
CCE is continuous and comprehensive evaluation system, which is adopted by this CBSE board. The board has divided each syllabus into two parts. First part is for term 1 and second part is for term 2 exam. Based on the syllabus, the question papers and sample question papers are designed for summative assessment 1 ( for September) and summative assessment II ( for March). Advantages of CCE
CCE is a useful system, which is introduced by the CBSE board to determine students’ learning problems and also assist them in improving their abilities, skills and attitude in all respects. Disadvantages of CCE
CCE is a useful system of CBSE board. This system measures students’ ability and skills in a proper way. Through this system the board assesses students’ overall performance in learning and other co-curricular activities. Based on students’ requirements, the board provides requisite assistance. This entire process improves students’ personality. Apart from its advantages, CCE system has disadvantages, as well. The greatest disadvantage of CCE system is its grading system. A student, who has got 90 marks, gets the same grade with the other student, who has got 99 marks. It means students, who have got more than 90 marks, are included in the same group. This is quite unfair for the students, who have got higher marks.
CCE (Continuous and comprehensive evaluation) is an ideal system which is adopted by the CBSE board to assess students’ ability and skills in a proper manner. Through this process, students’ learning ability is not only evaluated, but also other skills, interests and co-curricular activities are measured thoroughly. The board bifurcates the entire session into two terms including 1st term and 2nd term. First term is specified from April to September and 2nd term is mentioned from October to March.
